I'm a dual citizen and am struggling with CC debt I cannot pay. 11K + 6K. I am currently residing outside of US and have citizenship in that country as well. I have several questions that i'm hoping you guys can help me with:
1) 18 months ago I wired some cash form my US bank account to my mother's account out of country. If I close that bank account, can collections still access those records?
2) I made 2 small purchaes in my current country of residence wtih one of the cards I am currently in default on. Will they use that information to track me? I have also made purchases in a 3rd country where I was visiting family.
3) If I close all my deposit accounts in the US and have no working ph#, my last known address is that of a friends and he only uses a cell phone, what are the chances that I can be tracked to my current country of residence?
1) NO... I wouldn't worry about them accessing those records.
2) They can't track you without an address or phone number in the country where you currently live.
3) It is extremely unlikely that you'll be tracked at all.
This is a small amount of money and it will be sold off to collection agencies for pennies on the dollar. They will call the phone numbers that the creditor had on record for you... they might mail out a letter to your old address. And that will be the end of it. Its only an issue if you return to the U.S.
