When compared to other major life cycle events, like births and weddings, funerals are not expensive. A wedding costs at least three times as much; but because it is a happy event, wedding costs are rarely criticized. A funeral home is a 24-hour, labor-intensive business, with extensive facilities (viewing rooms, chapels, limousines, hearses, etc.); these expenses must be factored into the cost of a funeral. Moreover, the cost of a funeral includes not only merchandise, like caskets, but also the services of a licensed funeral director in making arrangements; filing appropriate forms; dealing with doctors, ministers, florists, newspapers and others; and seeing to all the necessary details.

I would rather be chucked in the garden to rott on the compost heap until ready to deliver a balanced blend of the nutrients to the newly spouting plants. In my opinion corporations are just caching in on peoples deaths. I think it’s discusting. Remember the government get TAX all on that, then want your inheritance tax after! THE WORLD IS MAD

I could not agree more with everything you’ve written. This outrageous bill for funerals for most people is less than 50 years old. My father built a coffin for my grandmother. The town ladies took care of the embalming. These were not people with money. Funerals today are too much of a show and a like you say money grabber to make the rich richer. I have every intention of going the same way my grandmother went. With respect dignity and no funeral director.
