Has the collection agency sent you anything in the mail regarding this debt? They cannot get your license suspended. If they sent you a letter stating you owed them this money... how long ago did you receive the letter? This is a dirty collector. Have you considered recording these conversations? It may be legal in your state to do so... you could sue this collection agency for violations of several laws.

I need advise on what to do with how a collection agency is treating me. I was in a car accident in 08, it was my fault and I know I owe the debt. The issues that I am having with the collection agency is they waited almost a year after the final payment was made to contact me and they are asking for $8600 right now or they will suspend my license. This company is not working with me in any way and is telling me if I do not except this right now they will have my license suspended tomorrow. The only way I could get them not to suspend my license was to make a lump sum payment by the end of this month, which I know I will not be able to do and I repeatedly told the collector I won't have the money by then and I NEED to make more reasonable payment arrangements such as a set amount every month until the debt is paid off. The collector REFUSED to set any form of payment arrangements with me and I want to know if this is legal to do? If I am stating I owe the debt and need to make monthly payments because I am unemployed and a full time college student, yet they refused to do any sort of arrangements and repeatedly threaten to suspend/revoke my license unless I accepted their terms and make the lump sum payment by the end of the month. And when I requested payment arrangements the collector said he will simply hang up and put a request to suspend my license because I am refusing to work with them. Which is 100% false... I really need some advice on what my rights are in this matter.
Thank you
in need of help!
