One year ago I went back to my home country, China, with approx. $17k cc debts. ($6k on citi, $6k on chase, $3k on discover, $2k on bank of america) I didn't plan to raid these cards, and was making monthly minimum payment thru the last 12 months. Catastrophic things jumped on my life recently that made me unable to continue my monthly payback. At ten years that comes to $50,000 plus interest and fees. I would say the amount due to the I.R.S. will be between $55,000 and $65,000.... Keep in mind I'm purely speculating as to the amount of interest and fees, but I would expect them to be in the range of $5,000 to $15,000 for this amount of past due taxes... They must have had employees and an EIN employer identification number documented with the I.R.S... It's possible that the couple can fall through the cracks and get ignored but it's unlikely due to the I.R.S. computer cross referencing data.
